Rose3002Pac non è stato solo uno dei migliori mc’s di sempre, è stato anche un grande poeta: l’elemento più importante, nei suoi brani, erano appunto i testi, delle vere e proprie poesie. “The Rose That Grew From Concrete” è, non a caso, una raccolta di poesie di 2Pac. Non aspettatevi quindi un disco propriamente di Rap, ma una selezione di poemetti recitati e a volte cantati da un gruppo di persone legate a Mr. Shakur.

Troviamo, infatti, nomi noti nel mondo dell’Hip-Hop come Mos Def, Dead Prez, Q-Tip e gli Outlawz, ma anche personaggi quali Danny Glover, Quincy Jones, Russell Simmons e la stessa madre di 2Pac. L’idea di realizzare questo progetto è proprio della signora Afeni Shakur, intenzionata a rendere nota al grande pubblico un’altra faccia del camaleontico figlio. Sentire queste poesie è un’esperienza toccante, soprattutto per chi conosce bene il lavoro dell’mc e l’ha sempre apprezzato: le sue parole sono molto profonde ed ispirate, in più sono musicate in maniera ottimale con suoni della tradizione nera, canti gospel, groove Jazz, ecc.

Tutte le poesie andrebbero analizzate a fondo, ascoltate con cura e capite, ovviamente con il testo davanti agli occhi per non tralasciare nessun particolare. Le più toccanti sono “Can U C The Pride In The Panther” in entrambe le versioni, la titletrack, “The Fear In The Heart Of A Man”, “In The Event Of My Demise”, “What Of A Love Unspoken” – ma la lista potrebbe senz’altro continuare. Logicamente sarebbe stato bello ascoltare queste poesie declamate dalla calda voce di 2Pac, ma ciò è impossibile: la rosa cresciuta dall’asfalto è stata spezzata in una notte di settembre… Ascoltate con attenzione questi versi, scoprirete un’altra dimensione di questo grande, grande artista, a volte duro e irriverente, altre dolce e profondo.
