Xzibit – 40 Dayz & 40 Nightz

A dispetto di una delle copertine peggio realizzate che io abbia mai visto, Xzibit torna a due anni dal buon “At The Speed Of Life” con un disco ugualmente valido, quasi sessanta minuti di ottimi incastri lirici, featuring azzeccati e, soprattutto, delle strumentali a tratti sorprendenti (vorrei proprio vedere chi al suono di “What U See Is What U Get” non inizia a fare su e giù con la testa fino a impazzire!).

Pregio notevole di “40 Dayz & 40 Nightz” è quello di non essere affatto monotematico, dunque noioso oltre il ragionevole: abbiamo infatti il pezzo peso e asfissiante, quello più leggero, il testo cattivo, il ritornello da cazzeggio, lo skit simpatico e via a seguire. Ce n’è insomma un po’ per tutti i gusti: andando con ordine, dopo l’intro vi ritroverete subito investiti dalla potente scarica delle prime quattro tracce, una più interessante dell’altra e che vi lasceranno piacevolmente stupiti, tra le quali “Chamber Music”, forse la mia preferita, e la già citata “What U See Is What U Get”, il singolo che ha anticipato l’uscita dell’album. Ma non finisce qui, continuando l’ascolto potrete infatti apprezzare “Pussy Pop” con la partecipazione di Method Man e Jayo Felony, la bellissima “Deeper” e “Recycled Assassins”, che vede la partecipazione di Montageone.

Inconcludente, al contrario, “Shroomz”, così come “Inside Job” verrà skippata a partire dal secondo ascolto; per il resto, avrete di che sfamarvi… Perché “40 Dayz & 40 Nightz” non è e non sarà mai un classico, un gioiellino, una bomba; è un lavoro dignitoso e ben amalgamato, che fa il suo (sporco) lavoro. Un ascolto è come minimo consigliato.
