Cosa combinano tre grossi e incazzati gangsta come Ice Cube, Mack 10 e W.C. quando si mettono assieme per formare la Westside Connection? Dai, è semplice: spaccano tutto! "Bow Down" è senza dubbio uno degli album più rappresentativi del G-Rap, il suono di questo disco è potente ed aggressivo, un classico esempio di come suonava e di come doveva suonare un prodotto West Coast nella metà degli anni novanta. Atmosfere maledette, suoni ipnotici e i temi cari a questa corrente, cioè le donne, la droga e la vita degradata di un luogo complesso come Inglewood. Il Gangsta Rap negli anni è stato molto criticato per la pochezza degli argomenti trattati e per il loro carattere assolutamente negativo, ma bisogna tener conto che questi mc's, nel bene e nel male, parlano della loro vita. Qualche diss di troppo, è vero, come l'inizio di "All The Critics In New York" (<<Back in the days, we used to respect y'all niggas, we used to be down with y'all niggas, all you have for the West Coast is criticism and disrespect, so I say to you and your city, y'all niggas will never get our respect again, westside nigga!>>), fermo restando che l'epoca era caratterizzata da un confronto molto aspro tra le due coste; la WC ce l'aveva però anche con Q-Tip (<<I once knew this bitch by the name of Q-Tip, who claim he had a problem with this gangsta shit>>), così come non le mandano certo a dire ai conterranei Cypress Hill ("King Of The Hill" e altri riferimenti in "Cross 'Em Out And Put A 'K": <<...now you can cross out the busters and snitches, B-Real and Miss Muggs is like Hollywood bitches! Use to get kisses and hugs, now I'm servin ya slugs, Fuck B-Real and Muggs, y'all niggas ain't no fuckin thugs...>> e poi <<the B in B-Real must stand for Bitch>>). Ma è ugualmente vero che, toni a parte, dal punto di vista musicale il disco è davvero bello, la titletrack è potentissima, come del resto gran parte delle tracce, da "Do You Like Criminals?" e "The Gangsta, The Killa And The Dope Dealer" a "Cross 'Em Out And Put A 'K" o "Westward Ho", tutte impreziosite dalla ferocia devastante del trio di mc's. Se siete degli appassionati di Gangsta Rap, "Bow Down" non potrà assolutamente mancarvi.
