Quanti sono i dj in circolazione? Parecchi. Quanti possono vantare un'esperienza e una longevità come quelle di Tony Touch? Pochi. La sua esperienza passa attraverso un numero infinito di mixtape e collaborazioni con gli artisti più famosi in circolazione, più o meno underground. La forza di Tony Toca risiede nella sua grande originalità e nella capacità di unire caratteristiche prettamente Hip-Hop con sonorità che richiamano la sua terra, il Portorico, strategia rafforzata dal suo caratteristico spanglish e che lo affianca a Cypress Hill, Big Pun e tanti altri. "The Piece Maker" è il punto d'arrivo del suo cammino evolutivo, un concentrato di stile e ritmi, in pratica ottima musica per ben settanta minuti. Il disco si apre con la traccia che dà il titolo all'album e subito le casse si spaccano in due: Tony e Premier si trovano ad occhi chiusi, con un gran ritornello scratchato cui seguono le rime del maestro Guru. Che trio devastante! "Set It On Fire" ospita Busta Rhymes con la sua Flipmode per un rifacimento di "On Fire" degli Stetsasonic, immancabili i Cypress Hill in "U Know The Rules", episodio più cupo e riflessivo seguito dal Wu-Tang Clan, che con "The Abduction" torna parzialmente alle atmosfere degli inizi con l'aggiunta di qualche contaminazione digitale. Tony seleziona con grandissimo intuito ogni collaborazione, in "Likwit Rhyming" ad esempio troviamo Dj Scratch che spalanca le porte a Tash, Defari ed Xzibit, il pezzo più spanish è senza dubbio "The Return Of The Diaz Bros.", dove Tony, Doo Wop e Pain In Da Ass rivisitano "Salsation" di David Shire. Spazio sia all'underground in "No, No, No" per gli Heltah Skeltah e Starang Wonduh, sia ai grandi nome come Prodigy in "Basics". Bellissima anche "I Wonder Why? (He's The Greatest Dj)" con Keisha e Pam, come "What's That?", dove Mos Def si esprime nell'idioma non suo con risulti gradevoli. In pratica andrebbero segnalate tutte le tracce, quella di Greg Nice e Psycho Les, quella dei D-12, per ultima però devo citare "Class Of '87", con tre illustri vecchietti che rispondono al nome di Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap e KRS-One. Che dire, grande Mr. Toca, classe a tonyllate, fossero tutti così i prodotti dei dj.
